March 17, 1978 - Our St. Patrick's Day Wedding

It was 30 years ago today that I married my best friend, Steven Keith Watters. I often felt like my marriage was 'made in Heaven' as I felt like I was so fortunate to have had Steve as my life's companion. Looking back at the wedding pictures, I have to chuckle at the dresses and tuxedos that we thought were 'just the thing' for the occassion. Everything was green, quite appropriate for St. Patrick's Day. We were married at Steve's church in Adrian, Michigan. His grandpa, Rev. Donald Baughey and my dad, Rev. Ernest Plemmons performed the ceremony. It was a beautiful ceremony (I thought it was anyway) and I'll never forget the special effects that we had for our special day. One thing in particular that I remember is walking around the altar to light the unity candle and my dress catching on the candleabra and the candleabra tipping toward me with lit candles on it. My dad nearly had a heart attack in trying to catch it. I ripped my dress, which was a real heartbreaker, since I had spent many hours, days and weeks making it. Steve chose my bouquet and nearly every year thereafter, gave me a bouquet of flowers on our anniversary that resembled my bouquet with multi-colored flowers.

Here it is, 30 years later, Steve is in Heaven and I am left with lots of happy memories of my dear husband. God was so good to me in allowing me to have a man who loved me for who I was. I feel like I was one of God's spoiled children, because he gave me a special gift when he gave me Steve. I'll always be thankful for having known him and will look forward to spending eternity in Heaven with him.

Thanks for letting me share some of my special pictures in this blog. It is part of the healing process after losing a loved one to look at pictures. Difficult!!! But it sure helps...

Isn't it funny to look at pictures from our early years!? I was looking at our wedding pictures the other day, and I'm not real sure that I would want to share them with the world. We looked funny: skinny (whatever that is) young, you know, all of that. Where has time gone? We have been blessed with "time". Because, time brings along with it many happy memories! Love ya! We miss Steve, but our families have many happy memories of much time spent together. I don't know what Phil and I would have done without you and Steve as our "best friends". Those times were special. You will always be the "bestest" friend a person could ever have. Sue

Cheryl,
I was thinking of you yesterday. I knew that day would be hard. I am glad you chose to blog about your wedding and put pictures up. Yes, when you look back at your pictures and see the styles you have to laugh. I know I do when I look at mine. But just wanted you to know I was thinking of you and praying for you. Love you, Genene

What special memories!! Thank you for sharing your photos with us all. We loved seeing them! I just wish I could have had the opportunity to know "Dad!" Jason said that he and I would have gotten on well together! By the way, had lots of fun helping with the cupcakes tonight!

Even for those of us who were not as closely acquainted with Steve consider him to be a "giant" of a man. A huge role model in God's kingdom certainly. Memories are wonderful things. Treasure them dearly.God Bless you. What a strong woman you are. Steve left you a "wealthy" lady with those 3 caring sons. Love & Prayers, Cathy
